About Sekhmet Coaching

Johannah Hetherington is a nurse and coach whose specialty work with healthcare providers is inspired by the Egyptian diety Sekhmet, a ferociously compassionate guardian and defender of healers. Sekhmet evokes the sanctity of protection of self and others, love, anger, justice, and the powerful internal transformation that can occur when life pushes you into dark, lonely places.

In this protected relational space between healthcare colleagues, your pain is safe, your heart is honored, and you are supported. You may be seeking ways to reconnect with the authentic self that led you into this career. You may be struggling to find ways to protect your sanity and regulate your overactive fight-flight response in the face of litigation or other work-related stressors. Or you may be ready to make new choices that will bring you more into alignment with your true desires and needs. Wherever you are, you deserve to ultimately find confidence, safety, happiness, and wholeness.

You are not alone.

YOU

You became a healthcare provider because you care deeply for humanity. You strive to improve people's lives. You love or did love your job, the camaraderie, the satisfaction of relieving the suffering of others.

But you pay the price of long shifts, the frustration of working within a healthcare system that places impossible demands upon you, the expectation of perfection in performance, presence, and never-ending pages of defensive documentation, and the grief of what you bear witness to that cannot be named.

I know the price that we and our families can pay when we have nothing left to give at the end of our work day. And, if you are experiencing or have experienced a medical malpractice lawsuit targeting your care and professional identity, you know the shame, loneliness, intense fear, anxiety, and trauma that leaves even the strongest clinicians questioning their worth for years.

Very few people outside the field of healthcare
understand all this.
ME

I know your world.

I am a nurse, born into a family of nurses and physicians. I have worked years of physically and morally exhausting double shifts on med-surg and psychiatric units. I have also spent years helping to defend highly-stressed and demoralized healthcare providers entangled in medical malpractice litigation in my roles as a claims specialist for medical malpractice insurance companies and private consultant to attorneys.

My passion for supporting and protecting those who care for other human beings has led me to my current career as a coach as well as my current studies to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

I bring my clinical knowledge, coaching expertise, and lived experience to my coaching practice. I am board-certified as a Nurse Coach, an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coach Federation, and I am trained in a host of trauma-informed coaching modalities.
